Cody, my canine companion for the last eleven years, died this morning. Yesterday she was an old dog (she was three years old when I got her), but she was walking and barking and eating and doing all the usual doggy activities. Something happened around 5am this morning that made her cry loudly and thrash around the front part of her body. After that, she was partly paralyzed, and couldnt eat or drink or eliminate. She had seizures and couldnt open her mouth and couldnt sit up without support. I had hoped that when the time came, she would pass away peacefully without my help, but today I could see that the process had started, but not finished, and poor Cody was stuck somewhere between life and death. From time to time, she would wake up and try to get up then cry because she couldnt. There was no question of leaving her alone in this state, so I took her to the veterinarian and had him ease her transition out of this world.
