Our memory serves as a personal library for us to remember everything we learn experience and encounter in our lives. Memory is broken up into two parts. You have your short term memory and then you have your Long term memory. Short term memory takes care of all the things we only need to remember for a short time. A short term memory usually last for a few seconds to a minute. An example is of short term memory is a phone number that is rarely used or directions to a route that is not always taken. Once you have made that phone call or driven that route and do not use that information again it is quickly lost from short term memory. A Long term memory consists of things we need to remember for much longer. Long term memories can last from a few days to a whole lifetime. An example of the names of our loved ones, memories of our lives or things we learned throughout our life that have registered in us are all part of Long term memory. Memory is like a camera it stores many snap shot of life experiences moment by moment. And as time goes by the memory system lose some of the information that has stored in our system. Which we are able to access quickly and effortlessly, consequently implying that stored knowledge must be highly organized to allow us to retrieve the appropriate information for a given situation. An example is when Pooja said “I keep trying to figure out if there’s something I missed that day” Something I saw or heard but can’t remember” . This is an example how all of Pooja’s thoughts were so organized in a folder in her brain.
