Cold Wave in India on Thursday, 15 January, 2015 Description Two persons lost their lives on account of the prevailing cold weather conditions in the district over the past 24 hours. The deaths took place in the Lawa Champa and Manjhiaon under Manjhiaon Police Station. In the first instance, one 55-year-old Bhikhu Chaudhry, resident of village Lawa Champa under Manjhiaon Police Station died on Tuesday. Mukhiya Sarita Devi made available 50 kg rice and `1,000 to the deceased person’s family. In another instance, one Umesh Tiwari died of the cold wave at village Manjhiaon Khurd on Monday night. Meanwhile, dense fog again enveloped the district on Wednesday after witnessing fairly good visibility conditions for the last three days. The visibility improved in the afternoon but reduced drastically soon after in the evening, affecting rail and bus services. The cold wave conditions coupled with dense fog have completely thrown life out of gear and higher reaches are the worst affected in the district. A thick blanket of fog engulfed almost the entire region today, reducing visibility and affecting normal life. Visibility was down to 100 to 200 meters at many places affecting rail and road traffic. Garhwa recorded a minimum temperature of five degrees on Monday which was the coldest day. Officials of Krishi Vigyan Kendra said that the cold wave and foggy conditions will continue for the next few days. The district administration has arranged bonfire at several places which relaxed the people.
