Coldplay, Magic. A step away from the bombast and huge stadium - TopicsExpress

Coldplay, Magic. A step away from the bombast and huge stadium rock sound theyve been going for since Viva La Vida, or perhaps X&Y. Magic is a quiet-ish song. It is almost Scandinavian in its execution; minimal, plods along insistently, shimmery bits of melodies popping here and there but not everywhere. Magic is produced by Paul Epworth. This is an insane fact if you consider that Paul Epworth made a name for himself making (sometimes very) loud songs for Florence + the Machine, Friendly Fires, Kate Nash and Adele. Magic sounds like nothing the group has ever done, its a stunning, stunning indie electronic ditty in the vein of The Whitest Boy Alive except with some killer songwriting. Magic sounds like Erlend Øye covering a Natalie Imbruglia song. Magic is the best Coldplay song to date, by a mile and then some. 10/10 (Other brilliant songs by Coldplay include: The Scientist, Yellow, Strawberry Swing, Talk, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, Violet Hill, Life In Technicolor II, and many others)
