Coles is a company driven by a hunger to maximise profit, regardless of the cost to suppliers, small business and families. When Coles’ squeeze happens in transport, it comes at a lethal cost – 330 lives lost on Australian roads each year. The Australian Food and Grocery Council believes the ACCC’s latest allegations of unconscionable conduct against Coles could help suppliers resist pressure from retailers to plug profit gaps, pay for better positions on supermarket shelves or fund promotions. Let’s hope they’re right:
