College Sports Madness Honors A-State’s Woodson JONESBORO, Ark. (10/5/14) – College Sports Madness has named Arkansas State football player Xavier Woodson its Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the sophomore linebacker helped lead the Red Wolves to a 28-14 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Oct. 4. Woodson recorded a team-high 10 tackles, career-high three tackles for loss and a sack to lead an A-State defense that allowed just 348 total yards. He recorded double-figure tackles for the second consecutive game and third time of his career, finishing just three stops shy of his career high set the contest prior. The Eufala, Ala. native has now posted a sack in three of the Red Wolves’ first five games and has a team-leading 5.5 tackles for loss. Woodson and the A-State defense shut out the Warhawks through the game’s first three quarters, allowing the Red Wolves’ to take a 14-0 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Woodson helped A-State limit ULM to just 72 rushing yards (2.9 yards per attempt) and 4.8 yards per play. Woodson now has a team-high 40 tackles, giving him an 8.0 average per game that ranks tied for eighth in the Sun Belt Conference. He is also ranked sixth in the league in sacks (3.0) and tied for fourth in tackles for loss. Arkansas State, which won its second consecutive game to improve to 3-2 on the season, continues Sun Belt Conference play Saturday, Oct. 11, at Georgia State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT).
