Colonization, where the colonizers physically conquer the lands - TopicsExpress

Colonization, where the colonizers physically conquer the lands and peoples of the colonized nations, is different from neo-colonization. The neo-colonizers do not conquer the body of the nations; they only conquer their minds. It is a sole prerogative of a sovereign state to make a policy which best suits its national interest. But the neo-colonizers impinge upon this exclusive domain of a sovereign state; they oblige it to change its policy in a manner which brings it in conformity with the global economic and trade order, as established by the neo-imperial powers. For instance: they compel the sovereign states to reduce tariffs, subsidies and other protectionist policies which the state adopts to protect its nascent industrial sector. China and India are the success stories because throughout the later half of the 20th century, they maintained their sovereignty and independence of policies. Only after building their industrial base and infrastructure did they open up to the Western bloc. Even now, China’s state capitalism is a paradox which is at odds with the free market capitalism as espoused by the neo-colonizers.
