The tick-borne illness is transmitted primarily by the bite of an infected blacklegged or deer tick, and can result in high fever, severe joint pain, and neurological problems. 24-year-old John Donnally - who has suffered from Lyme disease since the age of nine - partnered with the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (tbdalliance.org) to launch a nationwide public awareness campaign titled “Bite Back For a Cure.” The cross-country cycling tour began Sept. 29 in San Francisco an effort to raise awareness and funds that help improve Lyme disease testing, research and treatment.
