In the early 1990’s they imported East Friesian sheep embryos from their native Germany, and have continuously improved the genetics of their flock, resulting in sales all across North America. Axel and Chris were instrumental in founding the Ontario Dairy Sheep Association, and won the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence in 2009. Wooldrift farm ships their milk to a processor where it is turned in to a variety of unusual and delicious cheeses, which are sold at the farm gate and at various retailers across the province. During the tour Axel will explain a bit about the sheep dairy industry, including marketing options, and the regulatory environment. He will take you on a tour of his farm, show you the milking parlor, and talk about how he manages his flock of sheep. If you are interested in what it takes to start a small to medium scale dairy farm with sheep or goats this tour will give you lots of ideas, and information on how to get going! farmstart.ca/programs/training/skills-building-farm-tours/
