Come this weekend were all gonna be voting in this little country called Greece... and it looks like we will have a Left leaning governement come Monday..That is if they get the majority seats required to for a government....Things are going to be close... The general feeling is out with the old, in with the new... Many people who back Syriza (the reds...) are overly optimistic in my opinion, as the party has had to welcome to its ranks a number of ex-Pasok (socialist) members who like the proverbial rats jumped ship some time ago...there is this greek expression sygratimena aisiodoxos which means cautiously optimistic... well Im cautiously pessimistic in the hope that I may be pleasantly surprised... Im going with the Left myself, feel it is high time for a change, and that is the only change in the air... The outgoing government/party meantime has made its strongly conservative, racist and extreme right wing attitude increasingly clear... the campaigns have been played out on television and papers, mostly dirty, with some pretty ridiculous moments.. but Syriza has kept a pretty dignified stance, mostly airing its promises, and struggling to cope with the mud being thrown from the other side... There have been some pretty funny moments, like this one from ANEL, one of the smaller parties, but potential role players if a coalition government is necessary. Here Panos Kammenos (self proclaimed regulator and the necessary good) teaches a young Alexi how to drive a train in order not to de-rail it... :-) youtu.be/C7uys7GSLDY
