Come to an open house at The Co-op School! The Co-op School was founded in 2003 by a group of parents who saw the need for a high quality and affordable preschool option in the Clinton Hill and Fort Greene neighborhoods. In 2011 The Co-op School launched the first kindergarten class of its elementary program in a beautiful building on Brevoort Place. Currently we house Pre-K, kindergarten, first grade, and starting next year, a second grade (expanding a grade a year until 5th grade!). The Co-op School believes in differentiated instruction that educates the entire child on all levels: emotional, social, physical and intellectual. We cultivate readers through a balanced literacy approach and mathematicians through project-based learning that encourages reasoning and problem solving development. An integral part of our curriculum includes Center Time and Inquiry Projects, influenced by the Reggio Emilia model, because it encourages questioning, exploration, critical thinking and it allows the children to have a voice in what they are learning about. Also there are so many exciting things going on: 2-3 teachers in each class! Daily Spanish instruction! Beautiful library! New science lab! Woodshop taught by a former Construction Kids staff member!
