Come with me privately to an isolated place and rest a while. - TopicsExpress

Come with me privately to an isolated place and rest a while. Jesus. Nothing can recharge the battery of our spiritual energy as much as withdrawing from the world and resting for a little while in silence and union with God only. I find it interesting that out of all days that God chose to make sacred, it was the day on which He rested, the day on which He took a break from creation. Its good to get involved with good works, with preaching the Gospel and saving souls, but it is even better to remember the source and reason of all that we are doing, which is God Himself. From time to time, let us draw back a little to give a report of ourselves and works to the One who sent us, prayerfully evaluate how well we have carried and are carrying out His will, and receive fresh insight and grace for the works ahead. Sometimes, Gods will is that we do nothing but simply be still, and let Him be God. Alas! The opposite is the case in the world today. Too many of us are too busy being God that we have no time for God. That is the danger of doing so many good works that we forget the importance of a spiritual retreat. Let us remember that our primary and fundamental vocation as Christians is to be children of God before anything else. Angels are His servants; we are His children. Lets not be caught up in doing so much that we forget who we are to Him, or more importantly, who He is to us. And remember, we are first baptised into Gods family as His children before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation as soldiers of Christ. I see from this that one cannot be a soldier for God without first becoming a child; that we cannot do great things for Him unless we become aware of our littleness and inadequacy first and that without Him, we can do nothing. Hopefully, a retreat serves to remind us of that.
