ComedK stuns govt with U-turn on Common Entrance Test BANGALORE: In a decisive U-turn, private engineering colleges in Karnataka have announced they will not sign the consensual agreement unless the government agrees for a fee hike for engineering courses for the next academic year. With this, the stalemate on the Common Entrance Test (CET), that holds the key to professional courses in the state, will continue. On February 22, the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) had agreed to sign the consensual agreement with the government at the present fee structure and seat matrix for the 2014 admissions. However, the discontent among members was soon visible as many of them wanted an increase in the fee. KUPECA met on Tuesday and decided not to sign the agreement if its demand for a fee hike was not met. Meanwhile, KUPECA president Hemachandra Sagar demitted his post. I tried convincing the members. But I failed. I dont want the fee to be raised. Such decisions have to be taken in consensus with other stakeholders, like parents and students. Around 31 colleges were present at the meeting. Some of them demanded a fee hike, but a majority kept silent. I, therefore, demitted office, said Sagar. The government, however, said they havent got any information. We havent got any intimation that they would go back on their decision, said Rame Gowda, executive director, Karnataka Examination Authority. By Courtesy: timesofindia.indiatimes
