Comedy #3: THIS IS THE END (2013) Watched the first 30 minutes one night and found myself thinking, I may have made a mistake. Youve seen the trailers? Seth Rogan and friends (playing exaggerated versions of themselves) find themselves holed up in James Francos mansion when the apocalypse happens. I liked the idea, but it just got off on the wrong foot with me and the laughs didnt seem to be coming so often. I wanted to see it through, though, and watched the rest last night. Warmed up to it a shit-ton more and had me a good time! Maybe I was in a better mood. Maybe the movie just gets stronger after the first 20-30 minutes. Or maybe I just needed to get to Danny McBrides epic clash with James Franco over the house rules on jerking off. Yup, its that kind of movie. But with an entertainingly dark bent as various Seth Rogan buddies meet fittingly apocalyptic fates. I cant always do the stoner comedies, but this one ultimately won me over. Its epic finale didnt hurt. 3.5 stars out of 5
