Command and Control vs Collaboration and Chaos ? Two approaches to doing Geographical Investigation. The idea of differentiating instruction to accommodate different ways that students learn is an approach to teaching that requires active planning. With the introduction of Geographical Investigation G.I. into the Geography Syllabus in 2013, there is an urgent need to let student experience G.I. at the expense of differentiating instruction for different students. Just as one size does not fit all, the experiments suggested in the textbook may not be suitable for all students. This paper aims to present two approaches that have been carried out with G.I. The first is the Command and Control approach where the teachers design the Key Question, the hypothesis and the experiments to be carried out in a G.I. while the second is the Collaboration and Chaos approach where students are allowed to form their own Key Question, hypothesis, their own experiments. Both approaches have their pro et contra. It is hoped that with this presentations, geography teachers are encouraged to try out different approaches to carry out G.I.
