Commemorating the 59 Anniversary of naming Isshin-ryū karatedō - TopicsExpress

Commemorating the 59 Anniversary of naming Isshin-ryū karatedō (一心流空手道). On the wall is a picture of Ryūzu Kannon riding a dragon. It was Ryūzu Kannon who Tatsuo Sensei daydreamed about in late 1955. The Goddess riding a dragon circled tatsuo and told Tatsuo he had enough knowledge to create his own style of karate. The Goddess told Tatsuo to first make a image of her. In the picture frame on the table I have a picture of the Isshin-ryū no Megami (一心流 の女神) Goddess of Isshin-ryū. Draped over the picture is a bo-cover that Shimabuku Tatsuo Sensei made over 66 years ago. In a visit with Shimabuku Shinsho (Ciso) in 1999, he presented me with his father bo-cover saying that Tatsuo had the bo-cover under his pillow on his death-bed. Ciso explained that his father said to after his death, to give the bo-cover to Don Nagle, Steve Armstrong or Advincula. To the right of the framed picture of the Megami is a statue of Ryūzu Kannon (龍頭観音), the Goddess of Mercy with a Dragon. To the right of her is a Tiger. In the picture of the Goddess of Isshin-ryū is Dragon flying in the Heavens. In the Goddess headdress is a Tiger. The Dragon represents Heaven and the Tiger represents Earth. To the left of the framed Megami is a large bottle of Shirasagi (白鷺) or White Heron saki. This is what Tatsuo Sensei drank and it might be because Shirasagi was made in Chan/Kyan Village. To the right rear, is Kuan Kung the Chinese Taoist God of War and Martial Arts. It is only fitting to bring all these symbols together on this auspicious day, the 59 anniversary of our founder naming his style Isshin-ryū on January 15, 1956. To celebrate this occasion and to honor our founder, to all who follow the “dō (道)”, kanpai!
