Comments from the multi-talented Khrysso Heart LeFey : Because Ive been in the presence of Pandoras folk holiday mix in recent weeks, Ive been exposed to a hammered-dulcimer version of St. Basils Hymn, which was popularized by George Winston on his December album. Apparently he discovered it from Malcolm Dalglish, who is known to many folk musicians, especially dulcimer players (and to my FB friend Pete Sutherland in particular, since they were in a band together). But I dont like to know just the popularized version of old traditional songs; I like to know more about where they originated. Turns out this melody is well known to Greek children because it is a popular New Years carol. (St. Basil of Caesareas feast day varies depending on your religious tradition, but it is always in January, so the song commemorating him has become associated with New Years Day.) The Greek childrens version is slightly different from the Winston version, but still very similar: https://youtube/watch?v=0zqKuoeQMOU en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basil_of_Caesarea
