Comments like THIS drives US crazy? YOU? The pitcher gave up 14 runs and was pulled There is a HUGE, BIG, MAJOR problem with callously BLAMING a pitcher for giving up 14 runs. Far too often, pitchers are blamed for losses in this manner. Starting out in fast-pitch, its easy to blame a pitcher, and to think they are doing poorly on the mound because a team scored a bunch. But when you look into REAL stats, there is something called earned runs, and unearned runs. IF a pitcher walked in 14 runs - then yes, she did poorly BUT any good coach would have pulled her long before that happened. That being said, BEFORE you talk about pitchers giving up x-amount of runs, know the difference between earned and unearned, and what in reality qualifies as a HIT, and what doesnt. And, make sure YOUR PITCHERS KNOW THE DIFFERENCE TOO, so they can learn early on that not everything is their fault.
