Commissioner Warns Water Consumers in Niger State against Carrying out Monetary Transaction with Staff of Water Board. Niger State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hajiya Hadiza L. Abdullahi has warned water consumers in the state not to carry out any monetary transaction with staff of the State Water Board. Addressing Journalists in Minna, the Commissioner said that the reforms were being carried out at the board in order to sanitize the system for efficient and effective performance adding all payments due to the board should be done through the designated financial institutions. The Commissioner also urged people not to pay for any repairs of broken pipes outside their houses as it was the responsibility of the government. She called on water consumers to be on the look out for those criminal who vandalize water pipes and come to them asking for money to repair same adding that those people were not staff of the state water board and should be arrested. Hajiya Hadiza L. Abdullahi implored water consumers and the general public to report all pipe damages to the board for repairs to be effected promptly. The Commissioner announced that water supply in Minna had reached 70 per cent while reticulation was being carried out in other parts of the state capital adding that the Gusoro Water Treatment Plant was being overhauled to supply Kuta and environs with water while pipelines leading to Paiko town were being replaced. She revealed that the ministry was looking into the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement with an American firm in the water sector, in a bid to ensure that people got potable water. Hajiya Hadiza L. Abdullahi stated that one major challenge being faced by the ministry was that of power supply adding that the Chanchaga Water Works was most of the time run on generator.
