Commissioners Corner by Lee Sweeten Here it is the Monday - TopicsExpress

Commissioners Corner by Lee Sweeten Here it is the Monday after Thanksgiving and today is a perfect example of the old adage about Texas Weather. You know the one that says, If you dont like Texas Weather just hang around a few minutes. This morning started off nice and warm and then about 9:00 AM the north wind came. While I am sure that it was not a dramatic drop in temperature, it was enough to make me fetch my coat from the truck. I hope that everyone survived Thanksgiving and of course Black Friday and Cyber Monday... Seems with all the advertisements, we have somehow lost the true meaning of Thanksgiving along the way. Soon Christmas will be upon us and until then we will have to endure the numerous ads about the things that we just cannot live without for Christmas. I can remember back many years ago when I was growing up. Back then you did not see Christmas ads and merchandise until after the Thanksgiving Holiday and it seemed that there were not near as many Christmas Sale ads on TV. But then, of course there were only three channels on TV at that time... As usual, it seems I got sidetracked; so in other news.... The Road Crew has spent some time here in Precinct 2. While they were not able to complete as much as we would have liked, today will be their last day here for a while. If we were not able to get to your road this trip, then we will try to get it next time they are here in the area. Today, they are installing the School Zone signs here in Barksdale so please remember these zones and drive safe and slow and of course watch out for kids crossing the streets. For the most part, everything is fairly quiet at the County Level. We are still in a holding pattern relating to some of our grants; however, from all indications everything is still on track so all is well. The Community of Barksdale held its 4th Annual Thanksgiving Social on Thanksgiving at the Mary B Powers Hall in Barksdale with approximately 50 people showing up to enjoy the food and fellowship. It is always nice to see this type of Community Spirit and my thanks to all that made this event happen and to those who attended. This weeks quotes comes from Oprah Winfrey who said, Be thankful for what you have; youll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you dont have, you will never, ever have enough.
