Common Wealth Games 2014 : Indian shooting stars go 1-2, 1-2 at CWG GLASGOW: Indian women brought down the ceiling at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range, some 150 kilometres from here, on Saturday. They showed amazing nerves of steel as they shot without fear with their rifles and pistols. Two young girls - 21-year-old Apurvi Chandela and 23-year-old Rahi Sarnobat - clinched a gold medal each, while their teammates Ayonika Paul and Anisa Sayyed bagged silver to make it a rare double 1-2 for India at the Games - in 10m air rifle and 25m pistol events. In both the events it was a battle between these braveheart Indian women. While Apurvi fought Ayonika in the 10m air rifle, Rahi took on the experienced Anisa in the pistol event. It was sweet revenge for Rahi as she had finished behind Anisa in the Delhi Games four years ago. She was a picture of composure in the final, winning the contest comfortably at 8-2 to ensure India its third gold from the ranges. Earlier, Apurvi, who picked up the rifle after getting inspired by Abhinav Bindras success at the Beijing Olympics, won the 10m air rifle gold a day after her idol claimed the top honours in the same event in the mens category here. Apurvi came up with a blazing performance in the qualifiers earlier in the day to set a new Games record and she carried that form into the final. The feeling still has not hit me, the shooter said after the win. My focus was completely on the target, even though I could hear the crowd, the cheers, she said, referring to the loud roar that went up in the stands where the Indians were having a great time. Both Apurvi and Ayonika came up with consistent 10-plus scores to ensure that they stayed ahead of the rest in the final. I am very happy. It was a great match and I just followed everything that I have been doing in training, Ayonika said. Every medal is important to me. I won a World Cup, but this experience has been good fun. Ayonika said she kept on looking at the screen to know about her compatriots scores during the final. It was pretty close. I kept looking at the screen during the final and there wasnt much difference between us. It was fun to compete against her in the final. Apurvi, who had a score of 415.6 in the qualifiers, had a final score of 206.7. Ayonikas final score was 204.9. The bronze was won by Mohamed Taibi of Malaysia.
