Common law is law that arises from cases / within court rooms. - TopicsExpress

Common law is law that arises from cases / within court rooms. Statute law is law that is created within parliament - by politicians - the very people who are supposedly there to represent the wishes and common good of the public. Yet the public is rarely consulted on the creation, amendment or abolishment of these laws. And who are these politicians that introduce the bills to parliament? What experience and comprehension do they have? What are their motives? It seems to me that the lines between civil and criminal laws have become increasingly blurred, driven perhaps by revenue raising ??? (no surprises here)...but who authorises or gives the government authority to govern, and as part of that governing create statutes? We do...the public. So shouldnt we be consulted in this process? Once again I find myself pondering about the concept of the citizens initiated referendum as proposed by the former Speaker of Parliament - the Hon Peter Lewis - which to my understanding promoted exactly that.....giving the public a voice / a chance to participate in governing rather than handing over authority to a bunch of money hungry assholes who are sucking the life out of all of us. Do you think that the intelligent population would have allowed the anti association laws in, knowing that they were an attack on everyones civil liberties, that they attack the fundamental presumption of innocence until proven guilty? Do you think that we as an intelligent population would consider allowing the pricks to fine us over two thousand dollars if we happened to drive unregistered but accept that they dont have enough money to issue registration stickers so that we might not forget? .....wake up people.....!
