Common mistakes to avoid in BITSAT The first step to change into a successful person is to accept the fact that nobody is perfect and there is always something that a person needs to work on to become better. We have seen many times when we are prepared for something but when finally when we have to do it, something goes wrong. We try to avoid it by giving tons of reasons but no one can correct it then. One of those things is our exams. Although it’s common with every exam but I would like to discuss mistakes which people generally commit exclusively for BITSAT. First, I will discuss the mistakes then I will suggest you on how to avoid them- Mistakes- 1. I am giving my BITSAT 2013, I start off with maths, after 2 -3 questions I find out that I am not getting any of them. Observing this, I jump off to physics, feel the same and jump off to chemistry, logical reasoning, English in the same way. After that I again come back to Maths and history repeats itself. I am totally confused, random things going in my mind, don’t know what to do? 2. I am solving a question like- x2 + 5x +6; I have to give the solutions for this equation and in bracket it’s given that x is not equal to -3; I am in such a hurry, I just see the equation and quickly mark out the answer x= -3,-2 unaware of the condition given on the x in the question. 3. I was solving physics section, in order to save space for calculation for coming sections, I am writing so small that when I get stuck at a point while solving the problem, I myself am not able to figure out how did I reach that step. 4. I do a question and after completely solving it get an answer that doesn’t match with any of the options. I become frustrated and go on to the next question by doing calculations of the next question over my method of previous question. Here is the plan which I suggest, you may have something better than mine- 1. Jumping from section to section not only confuses you but also diminishes you self- confidence. So, you should avoid it. If you are doing math section and not getting problems, there is no need to worry, keep on going to the next question in the same section leaving the ones to attempt in the end if time persists. 2. ‘Read your question properly’-is what most would say after seeing the mistake. You should totally write it down, with a circle on it as a reminder to confirm your answer with the condition. The example which I gave you was very easy, but if you scroll down your mind a little bit, I bet that you are getting most of the questions wrong due to these mistakes only. 3. I mentioned in my last post too that do the calculation based sections in the beginning to avoid space-fight for other sections. Writing clearly just not increases accuracy but speed too. Yes guys ‘Speed too’ as you don’t have to waste your time looking for your previous steps. 4. This situation is the most common one during multiple-choice questions. Whenever this happens to mark a circle across your method and write the question number on it so that you can consult it at the end when you don’t have enough time to solve the complete question again. These are some of the tricks that can fetch you more marks against your competitors. Some more suggestions- 1. Many a times, while solving the organic chemistry question you try to imagine a compound, try to do it on paper. 2. Problems of Newton’s laws must be dealt carefully; any force if misused or taken with wrong direction can change the answer. Try making FBD even for a one-block problem. Remember- accuracy + speed = selection. 3. Don’t use calculators at home, it will affect your speed- yeah I know that it was a lame one but still. BEST OF LUCK
