Commonwealth Youth Leadership Online Course Over the past two - TopicsExpress

Commonwealth Youth Leadership Online Course Over the past two years CYP Pacific Centre has been working towards developing a dedicated youth leadership programme. Last year in September, 2012 our Pacific Centre hosted the Commonwealth Pacific Youth Leadership and Integrity Conference which attracted young leaders from all over the Pacific including a few non-Commonwealth countries. A key output of the Conference was the ‘Real Life Guide to Youth Leadership’ which was published in early April and 500 copies sent to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea for distribution amongst interested parties during the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting, the Commonwealth Youth Stakeholders Forum, Senior Officials Meeting and Commonwealth Youth Forum. These guides quickly disappeared over two days! A further print run of 1000 copies is being undertaken and we will be putting the ‘Real Life Guide to Youth Leadership’ on our Commonwealth website so that it can be downloaded free of charge. I will provide details when this is done. Moving on, we have collaborated with our friends at the CYP Africa Centre who have an online youth leadership course which runs for several weeks. The Africa Centre ran the leadership course earlier in the year and had 250 young people from all over the world taking part with about 5 percent from non-commonwealth countries such as Germany and Vietnam. For this next phase, the Africa Centre will be borrowing greatly from the work of the CYP Pacific Centre in structuring the online course to lead to a residential programme like the one we had last September in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The Africa team will use the “Real Life Guide to Youth Leadership” as a central document along with some of the Commonwealth Diploma in Youth Development materials on introduction to youth work and advocacy studies. Please assist CYP to have as many young Pacific people join the online course. We will be finalising the structure of the programme over the coming weeks and aiming to have this done by 30th June. We will also need at least one director of youth from the Pacific region and hopefully, at least one Youth Minister from the Pacific to be a guest panellist of the programme (online of course). In the meantime however, we are ready to take applications and will be most grateful if you will kindly communicate this to youth networks, youth ministries, NYCs, to encourage young people to apply. Please see attached poster promoting the youth leadership course and how to apply. Thank you so much in anticipation of you ‘tapping someone on the shoulder’ to make a difference in his/her life!
