Communicator friends, and especially writing teacher extraordinaire Jeff Herrington, will appreciate this. My partner in the Write and Rewrite brand, Jim Ylisela, and I were teaching a two-day writing seminar to a bunch of really smart marketers at a huge financial services company on the east coast. We were talking punctuation, and this particular group had a crack-like addition to the M dash. So we asked, How many of you are in love with the M dash? About half the group of 40 raised their hands. So we singled out one of them, a young lady, and said, Why are you so in love with the M dash? And without missing a beat, she said, in a total deadpan response with a straight face: Because its always been there for me.
