Wear comfortable clothing. No mat needed. Explore and learn about the ancient Chinese practice of Qigong (pronounced “chee Gung”) in this class. Long kept a carefully guarded secret from the Chinese public, Qigong, a branch of traditional Chinese medicine, has recently come into widespread use throughout the Far East. Now the practice is gaining acceptance and popularity as an effective exercise for health in the West. Research is showing that Qigong is a profound, yet simple method for increasing vitality and longevity, achieving and maintaining optimal health, achieving serenity and inner peace, and is a safe, gentle approach to treating pain and illness. Qigong has also been clinically shown to boost the immune system, lower high blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression, improve balance and coordination and much more. Qigong consists of fluid, gentle repetitive movement that allows the life force, or Qi (pronounced “chee”) to move unimpeded through the body. These techniques help to integrate the mind and body and allow the achievement of total harmony of the inner and outer self. This form of exercise is suitable for all ages and all physical conditions, and can be done sitting or standing.
