Community Note::The Barbour County Emergency Squad, Inc. is conducting its annual door to door canvass to raise funds to be placed in their New Ambulance and Equipment Fund. The canvass, which is the squad’s largest fundraising project of the year, will begin on Monday, August 4, and continues through Monday, August 18. The canvass will start at 5:30 p.m., and end at dark. For identification purposes, all squad members working the canvass will be in squad uniform, squad T-shirts, or have an official ID badge. The Barbour County Emergency Squad, Inc. was formed in 1988 when all county funding was eliminated and as a result, the squad became a nonprofit organization under IRS code 501 C3. The local squad receives no city or state funding and only limited funding from the Barbour County Commission. According to squad officials, “Fund raising dollars are extremely important to our agency. Without fund drives, it would be impossible for us to purchase new equipment,” they said. If you do not reside in the squad’s canvass area or you are inadvertently missed during the canvass and you would like to make a tax deductible donation to the squad, you may do so by sending it to B.C.E.S., P.O. Box 55, Philippi, WV 26416. Attention: 2014 Canvass. For your convenience, donations can also be made to the squad by using Discover, Visa, and MasterCard. Your continued support for this event is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions concerning the canvass, contact the squad director at (304) 457-2037.
