Community Safety Worker Programme (C.S.W.P) CSW Programme employs a diverse group of young people who strengthen and work in partnership with SAPS, Local Municipality and Other government departments. The C.S.W.P is a outreach to the community and help to deter crime by providing vital safety services, including: Crime prevention patrols at day and night; and high-visibility, uniformed evening patrol in the Overberg community and business areas, schools, Government Payouts. These CSWs will be train as multi-skilled workers in Community Policing, Firefighting and Emergency service. The CSW programme is designed to train and employ individuals residing in the community as first responders to public safety, fire protection, emergency medical assistance, crime prevention and basic law enforcement. The Newly employed CSWs will receive several training in Community Policing, Working of the Criminal justice system, Crime scene management, Basic Criminal Law, crime prevention patrol, self-defense, street survival, physical fitness and drill in order to learn to do their work proper and protect themselves. The CSWs will be active within the school setting, doing school talks, and early intervention and crime prevention programming. CSWs are intended to provide a dedicated, focused Community Policing role within the Overberg communities. Their primary mandate is to improve safety within the community by increased visibility and operational support while assisting in the delivery of crime prevention and public reassurance programs. The program was created to reduce crime, loss of life due to fires, drowning, lost person, and the lack of immediate emergency medical assistance in rural communities. The presence of these CSW has had a significant impact on reduce and improving the quality of life in the participating and crimes in housebreaking, theft, theft out of motor vehicle, wildlife fire in the Overberg mountain area and in the communities.
