Community skiing trip offered by SASPAn exciting opportunity to join us on our FIRST EVER! Community Snowsports Trip January 11th -18th 2014 Who for? Anyone who lives in the area served by the Somerset Activity and Sport Partnership (SASP) and their family and friends. Ideal for beginners who have not skied or boarded before - how better to learn than with a group of people in the same position - for the developing or experienced snowsports enthusiast or for us senior generation who’s skiing may be in steady decline but who’s enthusiasm remains undiminished! Ideal for groups, e.g. works or club groups, social groups etc. Where? Valmeinier / Valloire in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps. Not far as the crow flies from the well-known likes of Les Trois Vallees , Val D’Isere etc, this is a hidden gem of a resort. Village at 1800 mtrs and skiing up to 2700 mtrs, 33 lifts (mainly chairlifts) and over 150 km of Pistes . Read independent reviews at snow-forecast , choose France then choose Valmeinier. Our apartment block is Les Hauts du Valmeinier, in the newest and highest part of the village - probably closer to 2000 mtrs! It is almost on the main slope and with bars, take away, shops and supermarket all within 100 mtrs. We will have the option to use a FREE indoor pool and fitness room and Sauna (for a charge). How? We will be travelling by Berry’s Coach, leaving the SASP Headquarters on Friday evening (10th Jan), and arriving back in the U.K. the evening of Saturday 18th. Do not be put off by the journey. It is probably the easiest drive of any Ski resort with major motorway to within 8km of the resort and then just a short hop up the mountain to the resort. Experience tells me that if we left Taunton at 7pm we will arrive in resort by lunchtime next day. However, for those who cannot face the journey or wish to reduce travelling time, you are welcome to take the early morning Easyjet flight from either Gatwick or Bristol – Lyon. We will then pick you up as we pass Lyon Airport for the 2.5 hour journey to Valmeinier and drop you off on return. Unfortunately, there can be no discount if you choose this option, however we will take your luggage & ski equipment with us meaning you can take advantage of the cheap & convenient hand luggage only price (last year you would have got change from £70 return). Why? SASP is the County Sports Partnership for Somerset, one of 49 across England established by Sport England. Formerly operating under the auspice of the County Council, it has now become a charitable trust. The aim of SASP, in a nutshell, is to encourage community engagement and participation in sport and recreation. As a Charity, SASP is a non-profit making organisation which is one of the major reasons for the exceptional price. However, because the function of SASP is to encourage participation, it is important to point out that the focus of the trip is actual engagement in Snowsports (Skiing and Snowboarding). Whilst we are not killjoys and recognise that Bars and Restaurants will be an important focal point for evening gatherings, we must stress that if the nightlife is the main attraction for you, this is probably neither the trip nor resort for you!
