Companies Are Concerned About Cybersecurity and Plan to Spend a Lot More on it This Year Business Insider (01/06/15) Kim, Eugene The year 2014 saw more reports of security breaches than ever before, and many consider the Sony cyberattack to be the worst in U.S. corporate history. Such attacks appear to have a direct impact on company spending for computer security. A survey by Piper Jaffray found that security was the top spending priority for CIOs this year, with 75 percent of respondents saying they intended to increase spending in 2015. Only 59 percent had indicated plans to increase security spending in 2014. Another 35 percent of respondents said that security was a major reason why they were hesitant to move to the cloud rather than using their own data centers instead. The survey included 112 CIOs from eight different industries. Several top venture capitalists in Silicon Valley have chosen cybersecurity as one of their biggest investment areas for 2015.
