Comparison and review. Bi pods Caldwell 13.5 -27 Blackhawks 13-21 Shooting sticks are defiantly the way to go for deer hunters who typically are hunting from a stand. And only coyote hunt a couple times a year. With the price comparison of shooting sticks to a bi pod being considered. I wouldnt want to spend the money on a good bipod. Unless I were into predator hunting ,and spent most of my time shooting from the ground. That being said, I wanted to do a lil review on bi pods. Witch in my opinion is a important part of a predator hunters arsenal. First , the mossberg is paired with the Caldwell bipod. And the savage has the black hawk bipod. I have a couple sets of Blackhawks 9-13 bi pods. Great equipment and affordable. Karens gun witch is the savage. I purchased the black hawk 13-21. Witch is perfect for her height. Just a lil to short for me to be totally comfortable. Great bipod thought. Easy to pull out. Locks well with no slippage. Karen enjoys the simplicity of them over the cheap sticks. Witch by the way I am working on a new model of cheap sticks. Should have a batch done in a month. Stay tuned for that. Anyways, they pivot well and swivel enough to get by. Well made, stay snug on the rifle. Really like the Blackhawks. Caldwell bipod. I usually hunt with my normal bipod. And carry my cheap sticks. Gives me a range from shooting on all types of terrain and heights. But, when I carry my shotgun with me the cheap sticks become a bit of a issue for a quick change to the rifle. As I typically face my rifle to the down wind and shotgun in front. So, I opted to purchase the Caldwell bipod after finding it in the bargain cave at cabelas. I will say this, only way to go when hunting from the ground with 2 guns. That being said I have some pros and cons. First, I feel as if the black hawk is easier to deploy than the Caldwell. But if any one has the Blackhawks knows when letting the legs back in. Watch your fingers. The Caldwell has a much better retraction than the other. As far as quality, I like the Blackhawks much better. More sturdy , tightens to the rifle better. All around the construction of both is very similar, but the Blackhawks gets my vote there. I do like that the Caldwell has a much better height adjustment system. With notches in the legs in I believe 1 increments. Being I either go 13 or the full length, its not a major issue to me. All in all both are great products. And they are not completely apples to apples. That being considered. My favorite has to be the black hawk. Main reason, better construction. And I like a more simple deploy design, vrs the Caldwell has the better retraction design. These are just my opinions. Wade chandler
