Completed my 23rd State Portland, Oregon in 4:17:32. Las Vegas is next on the list in November, and Seattle in December. Hopefully be half way done by the end of the year. HIGHLIGHTS - Good size Expo and bib pickup was a breeze with lots of booths and merchandise to pick from. Only thing I didnt like was that they dont give out any swag until you cross the line, so youre committed to finish if you want your tech shirt and goodies. - Ideal running conditions with temps starting in the 60s and 70s at the end. I would have liked it a little cooler, but I cant complain No rain No wind! - Course was a bit hilly but not as bad. A couple of big climbs specially from mile 16-17 towards St. Johns Bridge. Nice view of Mt. Hood from the distance. - Plenty of aid stations and porta potties. Lots of live entertainment all over the course. Reminded me of the RocknRoll series runs. Amazing volunteers, and the crowd support that was out there was very enthusiastic. Last 5K was the best, with fans on both sides of the road cheering very loud! - Finish was awesome with tons of food and drinks for everyone. Finishers get a light jacket, tech shirt, pendant, commemorative coin, tree seedling, and a rose. Portland has an enormous amount of swag! - Favorite signs on the course Run like you stole something Worst parade ever Blisters in Braille means awesome No time for Walken (Picture of Christopher Walken on poster) Smile if you peed a little bit How did she know :-) LOWLIGHTS - It would have been nice to showcase this beautiful city better. Although there were some nice parts we ran through, most of the course was through neighborhoods and industrial areas. If you like running through warehouses, youll be in heaven here. At least I was able to concentrate on how my body feels and my mental state. Isnt that what the race is about anyway? - Mile markers for the first 5 miles were non existent along with some others in the middle miles. - No GU & No Gatorade! They had a drink called Ultima that tasted nasty, and they handed out gummy bears on the later miles. - Security was tight, so no bag check and no spectators at the finish line. Overall good race, and I would do it again. But only after I complete all 50 States first :-) CARE REPRESENT !
