Compliments of Loretta A. Murphy...Well spoken my friend! In America, our system of justice is based on the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a jury of our peers. If youre guilty, youre guilty no matter what. If youre truly innocent, youre truly innocent. Our system presumes innocence, which means that legally speaking, even the obviously guilty are treated as though they are innocent, until they are proven otherwise. The concept of the presumption of innocence is one of the most basic in our system of justice. In so many words, although is not codified in the text of the Constitution, this basic right comes to us, like many things, from English jurisprudence, and has been a part of that system for so long, that it is considered common law. The concept is embodied in several provisions of the Constitution, however, such as the right to remain silent and the right to a jury. How quickly people judge without any real evidence! If the shoe were on their foot, I wonder how theyd feel. People make all sorts of accusations for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes the accusations are true. Sometimes they are false. It is disgusting to watch people turn on someone like rabid dogs. We have courts of law to try individuals accused of crimes. Unless youre sitting in the jury box or on the right hand of God, maybe you need to stop passing judgement - lest you yourself be judged accordingly. For shame, for shame. Such good Christians and such good Americans.
