Computer hardware experts out there, I have some questions - TopicsExpress

Computer hardware experts out there, I have some questions regarding motherboards. Problem: My home desktop wont turn on when the power button is pressed. No sound, no LED lights, nothing. Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-H67MA-D2H-B3 using Intel H67 chipset, with Intel Core i5-2500 CPU on LGA1155 socket. Computer was purchased in January 2011 so it is already out of warranty. 1) When I turned on power, the CPU fan starts but there is no response on the motherboard when I press the power button, I attempted to short the power pins on the motherboard but no response either. As far as I can tell, CPU fan draws its power from the motherboard. Can I conclude that the power supply unit is working and the motherboard has died? 2) I suspect Gigabyte GA-H67MA-D2H-B3 most likely has no more stock. If I buy a replacement motherboard without the CPU, do I need to ensure only socket compatibility, or do I need to ensure chipset compatibility as well? Any other compatibility issues to take note? Thanks!
