Concept Future Entertainment presents Kaya Music Festival @ The Ruin Weldon Kaya Plettenberg Bay 29 Nov 2013 to 3 Feb 2014 ———————————————– The concept of Kaya Music Festival is to provide a local and international social music entertainment event at the well known and loved, Weldon Kaya, Plettenberg Bay, operating from 29 November 2013 until 3 February 2014. The festival will provide live entertainment and local foods from 4pm until 2:00am each day, Thursday to Monday. However we will be operating every day from 29 November until 9 December. The purpose of Kaya Music Festival is to provide the residents of Plettenberg Bay, and beyond, with quality, dance music entertainment in an enjoyable, pleasant atmosphere. It will provide an excellent place and opportunity for social interaction with dancing, games, and themed events, with an emphasis on “live”, relaxed, dance music in the Genres: Deep House, Minimal, Chillout and Ambient. The low-key, casual ambiance and quality of service and food will ensure a large, loyal following of festival goers throughout the holiday period. The venue will feature a beer, spirits and wine bar, along with live entertainment and a dining area. The ruin at Weldon Kaya premises is cleaned and prepared for safe use by patrons., including a stretch tent to cover the missing roof. A sound system and bar is installed along with a DJ booth and performance stage. Competent security is already on-site, including roaming security guards and car-park attendants, and will be provided every day until the event finishes. Temporary toilets have been installed and will be regularly serviced. Taxi services are bring hired to ferry patrons to and from Plettenberg Bay CBD. Kaya Music Festival will provide around 50 or more jobs to local residents including bartenders, waiting staff, security and guest services, as well as to local and international DJ’s and live acts. Additionally, services including decoration, themed occasions, ice-cream sales, braai-services, etc, will be outsourced to local service providers. Kaya Music Festival will maintain strict rules for entry, including a minimum of 18 years old. Additionally, music volume will be kept to a minimum so as not to disturb local residents. This will be helped by playing only music in the Genres already mentioned as this style of music is for socialising, allowing patrons to converse normally without significantly raising their voices to be heard. Guiding Principles, Beliefs, and Values Activities, projects and programs of the Kaya Music Festival are guided by the following values, beliefs and principles. Kaya Music Festival as an enduring community: This is defined by the following: A group of individuals united under the Kaya Music Festival Cooperative that shares a love of music and the relationships it helps create. An abiding respect for people, land and culture: We treat each other with respect and kindness, accepting differences and nurturing both personal and collective growth. A spirit of environmental responsibility is central to all our activities. The importance of music: Above all else, music is the glue’ that binds the Community. The elevated importance of music does not preclude Kaya Music Festival from incorporating other important cultural aspects that share a connection with the musical events aspects such as visual arts, performing arts, spoken word but music is our top priority. The development and promotion of our local area: The support and promotion of local artists is important to us. We also believe in supporting local businesses and cultural organizations. Cultural affirmation and relationship building: Coming together as one human family we share songs, stories, customs and traditions. We encourage cross cultural collaboration and affirm the importance of Plettenberg Bay’s founding cultures. Consistent promotion of artistic growth and creativity: We work together to foster an environment that invites learning and growth, thereby supporting artistic development and infrastructure through education and outreach. Accountability: We develop quality musical programs rooted in effective planning and implementation processes. We are fiscally responsible and adhere to sound management principles. Celebration: We have fun and celebrate with each other. We welcome guests and do all we can to ensure their visit is enjoyable and entertaining. Strategic Goals 1) To celebrate the musical and cultural heritage of the local Community 2) To create meaningful connections between cultures, community groups, artists and audiences 3) To enable the cultivation and growth of local and international music and artistic talent 4) To enrich the local culture and quality of life by bringing global musical acts to Plettenberg Bay 5) To play a role in building a long term musical and artistic infrastructure in the Plettenberg Bay area Conclusion The Kaya Music Festival Cooperative is establishing a top quality musical event and activities, and will offer superb hospitality to visiting performers and guests. We are committed to working with our community to produce a memorable and sustainable musical event and develop the artistic talent and infrastructure of the Community. We are poised to respond to our community’s wishes and committed to helping our local music industry become recognised for its uniqueness, its collaboration, and its ability to consistently generate some of the finest musical acts in the country, and do this while providing first class entertainment for our audience. Our Cooperative is dedicated to being accountable, to doing the right things, and doing them right. In the coming years as we continue to grow, we will be asking others to support our cause; a cause that is at once social, economic and personal. To achieve this goal, we will need the continued support of local folks who roll up their sleeves to make magic happen. We will need to continually earn the buy in of local and international artists by responding to their needs. The ruin on the hill is the best destination of all.
