Concept I dreamed up in 1968 when I was eleven and was TOTALLY infected by Model rocketry...yeah, one of this! I was on eighth grade science class...science baby! Anyway...I thought this air cushion vehicle (I was a hovercraft addict!) with motors canted at opposing 45% angles creating a high speed spin, the vanes directing air into the plenum where it is pressurized and is forced thru a nozzle with a suffuser cone. The launch lug is bored thru the spin axis...the model is balanced like a tire...the launch rod is only six inches long. I thought this up at age 11 and finally built them in 1985. They are still being experimented with. They are called Spin Dizzies after James Blish. The models are made from Chinet paper plates and Bristol board. When I try three C motors the revs are so high that the models come apart. Ive stuck with two motors but have been working on a much more effective raked vane design on the advice of several aerospace engineers. This looks hopeful. The models rapidly boost 40-70 feet and at burnout they Frisbee to the ground safely due to their light weight.
