Concerning with the UNWP event to be held in Duksung Womens University 유엔 여성부와 함께 덕성여대에서 개최되는 이번 이벤트에 대해서. First of all, I want to make this clear. I am for gender equality and hate racism same as terrorism and wars. 먼저, 이점을 분명하게 말씀드리고 싶습니다. 저는 양성평등을 지지하며 인종차별을 테러와 전쟁만큼 증오하는 사람입니다. However, the reason why I’m writing this is the timing is not right and potential problems that I am deeply concerned about. 그러나, 제가 이 글을 쓰는 이유는 시기가 좋지 않으며 제가 깊이 염려하는 잠재적 문제들 때문입니다. The problems I have mentioned are not Ebola virus or African students but the hurt that students from Africa would get due to this event. 제가 언급한 문제들이란 에볼라 바이러스나 아프리카 학생들이 아니며 그보다 그 학생들이 이 행사로 인해 받을 상처입니다. I have checked virtually all the articles related to this issue and pretty convinced that the university is doing their best for safety. 저는 이번 사건과 관련한 거의 모든 기사들을 읽어보았고 덕성여대에서도 안전을 위해 만전을 기한다는 점을 알고 있습니다. Nevertheless, I would have to talk about something more substantial. When the event begins, the media would focus on this issue, no matter what efforts the university and UN women have made. 그러나 좀더 본질적인 이야기를 해야합니다. 이 행사가 진행되면 언론은 덕성여대와 유엔 여성기구에서 쏟아부은 노력과 상관없이 이 이슈에 집중할 것 입니다. What I’m concerned about is that the students from Africa would get so much attention, especially during their tour in Seoul. 제가 걱정하는 것은 아프리카에서 온 학생들이 특히나 서울 투어를 할때 엄청난 주목을 받을 것이라는 점 입니다. People who have been wrongly informed from SNS and the internet would treat them unjustly, which occurs – at least in a similar form in any country - every so often whether we want or not. SNS나 인터넷을 통해 잘못된 정보에 노출된 사람들은 아프리카 학생들을 온당치 못하게 대할 것입니다. 이런 일은 그 어느 국가나 최소한 비슷한 방식으로 우리가 원하든 원치않든 자주 발생하는 일 입니다. Therefore, I insist that canceling this event is the best solution. 따라서, 저는 이 행사를 취소하는 것이 최선의 방책이라고 주장합니다. If the organization cancels this event, the students from all different countries would just have to wait for the next one. 만약 주최기관에서 이 행사를 취소하면 모든 국가에서 온 학생들이 그저 다음 기회를 기약하면 되는 문제입니다. However, if the organization let the event run or send only the students from Africa back to their countries, it could be seen as a biased decision or in some cases, racism of Korean people. 그러나, 만약 주최측이 이 행사를 진행시키거나 아프리카 출신 학생들만 고국으로 되돌려 보낸다면 그것은 매우 편향된 결정, 또는 상황에 따라서 대한민국 국민들의 인종차별로 오인할 수 있습니다. I do not want this happen. 저는 이런 일이 발생하기 원치 않습니다. I love humanity, gender equality and I am against any type of negative effects stemming from unwise decisions. 저는 인간애와 양성평등을 지향합니다. 그리고 현명하지 못한 판단에서 기인하는 모든 부정적 영향들을 지양합니다. Please take my opinion into account and make a better decision for all of us, including those who are coming from African countries. 부디 제 의견을 고려해 주시어 우리 모두 - 아프리카에서 오는 학생들을 포함하여 - 를 위해 더 나은 결정을 내려주십시오. I hope Ebola virus disappear as soon as possible and hold this event any time soon without any worries for the good purpose as you have all planned. 에볼라 바이러스가 최대한 빨리 사라지길 희망하고 여러분들 모두가 계획했던대로 이 대회가 좋은 목적으로 우려없이 조만간 다시 개최되길 희망합니다.
