Concerns... The centre is contacted very day by the public having found a cat. ...on Facebook alone last week we had 19 people contact. Often we are asked can it be brought to the centre? Yet when we ask what makes them think its a stray, the reply is often that they had never seen the cat before. These cats are usually in good health, good body weight and shiny coats and dont forget guys some cats are naturally slim which is often mistaken for skinny. **** The best thing to do for the cat is try to reunite with owner**** Too often these cats belong in the local neighbourhood and because you have not seen the cat before does mean it is a stray. Cats are natural roamers and an unneutered cat will roam for miles. Things you need to do if you think the cat is a stray: *Ask neighbours and not just local neighbours as cats will roam. *Never take the cat in as it cannot get out to go home. *It is very important to put up posters in local shops etc and a leaflet drop will certainly help. *The cat may be mirco-chipped, if it could be taken securely to the vets to be checked. *Post on Facebook asking if some one recognises cat BUT please remember folks not everyone is on Facebook! and just because no one does recognise it doesnt meant it is not owned. * Please remember folks if you feed the cat it will visit again as even pet owned cats can have multiply feeders! We are very concerned for the cats and we advise that pet owners at least mirco-chip their cats. Collars with id tags can be extremely helpful but not all owners have faith in collars.. totally understandable. If you need advice please contact the centre and never bring the cat to the centre as you may have to take the cat with you again. We have extremely limited space & funds and unfortunately you are not the only person to contact us that day.
