Concluding the discussion on making judgments or determinations...using our good ol brain in critical thinking... making assessments and evaluations... discerning. Ive stated how making a judgment, determination, discernment, assessment or critique has been simultaneously and erroneously equated to condemnation. Its true, sometimes they are delivered in the same package, simultaneously. In our passion, we must always be mindful to not condemn. But an assessment, evaluation or critique, even one shown to be inaccurate, is not a condemnation. I find it problematic that some groups want to make you feel guilty for making a judgment, assessment or critique. I think there are ideologies that want people to stop evaluating, stop thinking, stop assessing and stop critiquing. I have heard Spiritualists claim that thinking, assessing, analyzing is the cause of suffering. Thought is the problem. Dont think! Ironically, Christian Fundamentalism does the same thing. Dont think critically. Dont try to discern. Just accept everything the pastor says as right. If you ask to many questions you might find the left foot of fellowship. Dont think! Just accept everything your love guru says as truth. Both of these groups, and Im sure there are others also, want you to just take their word on it. Dont think for yourself. Dont critique what their saying. Dont assess, evaluate and observe the real life outcomes of these ideologies. Youre just being judgmental. So then, the practical conclusion of this dis-empowerment is, if you see someone hurting themselves, or hurting themselves and others, or someone is hurting you... say nothing, do nothing, do not evaluate, do not assess, you are just going to end up judging or condemning someone. In the documentary I AM, the Dalai Lama was asked, What is wrong with our world and what can we do to change it? What is the most important meditation? I hope my Love/Spiritualists friends will take notice of his answer. It wasnt, Love will change the world. Just love everyone and tolerate anything anyone does. It wasnt, There is nothing wrong, I only see this moment. Wrong is in the past. Right now is beautiful. Just stay in the now and the world will be as it is. The Dalai Lamas answer: Critical thinking followed by action. Critical thinking is the discernment of the world we live in. Know the scenario. Know the human drama and then figure out where our talents can fit in to make a better world. I couldnt agree more with this insightful answer. Critical thinking, discernment, assessing, evaluating, making determinations, making judgments... these are FIRST STEPS, prerequisites if you will, to making the world a BETTER PLACE. Without them, we cant even get off the ground.
