The applicant must show documented scholarly qualifications in either Ancient and Early Christian art or Renaissance and Baroque art and/or architecture as well as the capacity to teach across these disciplines. The holder of the position is expected to initiate and lead research activities, to supervise PhD and MA candidates, to participate in teaching, exam setting and evaluation at all levels, and to carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the Department. Approximately 50 % of the position as associate professor is reserved for conducting research. The person appointed will be given responsibility to teach the art of the Classical tradition at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Given the robust research environment in modernism, courses in the classical tradition through the present day would be welcome. If so required, the person appointed must be able to teach the preponderance of the courses in art history offered on BA level. The person appointed will also have the opportunity to teach and conduct research at the Norwegian Institute in Rome.
