Conditions and Weather Report Lake John/Cowdrey Lake Ice Fishing Contest on 1/10/15 and 1/11/15 Just getting ready for the upcoming contest this weekend and have a minute between chores, so I thought I’d inform everybody about current and predicted conditions. Ice is presently firm at 10-12 inches for the most part, with snow amounts atop ice now minimal due to high winds earlier this week. What snow is on the surface is hard and crusty. The reason I give the ice thickness “for the most part” is because one fisherman that has been out recently said he found variations up to 4 inches on Lake John. Cowdrey Lake seems to be a little more consistent. There has been no truck traffic yet on either lake, however ATV’s and snowmobiles have been out. My advice has always been not to make the first tracks, but I’ll leave that up to you people. I’ll be nice and warm up at the Resort measuring all your fish, and you can’t catch a fish for me to calculate if you’re digging a truck out of the ice. Weather for this weekend is supposed to be decent. Winds mild, at least by North Park standards, lows in the teens and highs in the low 30’s. Possible light snow by Sunday. County crews were out yesterday and did a great job of clearing roads to and from the lakes, the road down the west side to the south end, and the parking areas. Remember, the road along the east side of Lake John, and the north end of Road 7 (coming in from the Cowdrey side) are NOT plowed. I have no RV parking with hook-ups available, however if you have a generator, there’s plenty of space obtainable around the lake. Just so all you hard-working fishermen and women know, the StormSplitter Bar and Grill at the Resort will be open all weekend for you to warm up with a hot cup of coffee or cocoa, or to celebrate the big fish. You can grab a sandwich to go, or have a seat and a meal. Take a break, and let our staff do the work. Call ahead, and your order will be ready for pick-up.
