Conditions were far from ideal yesterday…… Infact, at certain times during the swims they could only be described as “Brutal”. The 17 swimmers taking part had to battle severe headwinds for much of the time but to their absolute credit all of them finished… The sheer determination, mental strength and stubbornness of the long distance swimmer was on display yesterday for all to see and for me personally it was pleasure just to be part of it. I now hope that both these events can continue to grow into something that the Irish open water community can truly be proud of for many years to come. My sincere thanks to the following for making the day possible. • Fermanagh Council and Waterways Ireland for their sponsorship of the event. • Dublin Mini Coaches for the use of the minibus and of course Denise for driving it!! • Leatherdoctor NI for sponsoring the silver salvers. • Chris Walsh in safety boat 1 for putting up with me all day and for the excellent safety advice in the run up to the event. • The ever dependable Peter Scott in the lead boat (safety boat 2), the order of Malta Ambulance Corps • Keith Collen and Tommy McLaughlin from Fermanagh Council (safety boats 3&4) • All 21 canoeists and in particular Trevor foster who has been extremely helpful and patient with me throughout!! • David Irving for drawing and laminating the map of the course. • Lough Erne Yacht Club for affording us a great spot for the 25k finish and ofcourse the use of their showers and changing Facilities. • The Manor House Hotel for the excellent food and surroundings. • ILDSA President Billy Wallace, Vice President Sheena Paterson and Chairperson Margaret McCreesh who all came down to help on the day. Your support is very much appreciated….. • And last but by no means least…..A big thank you to the swimmers who ALL put in extraordinary performances yesterday Jeff Wilson LADIES RESULTS ILDSA & Swim Ireland Irish Ladies National 25k Championships 1st) Fionnuala Walsh - 8 hours 31 mins 42 secs 2nd) Alison Cardwell - 8 hours 42 mins 02 secs 3rd) Lynsey Dunne 8 - hours 55 mins 43 secs (Good luck with your English Channel swim Lynsey!!)
