Cone happy with ‘intact’ San Mig Coffee; Yap vows big comeback By Snow Badua l Published: Jul/13/2013 MANILA -- The word trade should not be associated with the San Mig Coffee Mixers, at least before the upcoming PBA Governors’ Cup kicks off. Coach Tim Cone told Solar Sports Desk that there will no longer be any movements for his team, something that team governor Rene Pardo is supporting. “We don’t have any plans for trades. We want to stay as intact as possible, we want to be familiar with each other and what we do,” said Cone. “That gives us confidence.” “Unless something big comes to us… we will no longer trade players,” said Pardo. The Mixers had a minor tweak in its roster by acquiring free agent and former back up guard Val Acuna from the free agent market. The 26-year-old Ilagan, Isabela native had a stellar season in the just concluded Asean Basketball League, where he played a key role in helping the San Miguel Beer-Philippines capture the crown. “We only have Val and Olsen Racela as changes. The roster stays the same. We’re happy that we’re staying together and be more familiar this time around,” Cone said. Superstar James Yap recently bared that he is already recovering from his back injury and that he is hoping to stage a big comeback soon for the team. “Sana hindi na bumalik yung pananakit ng likod ko,” said Yap, who is doing plyometrics sessions under famed trainer John Aquino since his arrival from a three-week vacation in Italy last week. Yap also hopes to leave behind a horrible Commissioner’s cup playoffs performance in a losing semifinals bid versus the eventual champion Alaska Aces.
