Confab: Groups want Yoruba in Kogi, Kwara merged with South-West ilorin.info/fullnews.php?id=10658 Two socio-political organizations of Yoruba- speaking people in Kwara State, the Kwara South Consultative Forum (KSCF) and Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG), have called on members of the ongoing national conference to effect a boundary adjustment to merge the Yorubas of Kwara and Kogi states with the Yoruba of the South West geo-political zone of the country. This is contrary to views of some political leaders in the area who said that strength of the state lies in unity of all people in the state, irrespective of tribe, race, ethnicity or religion. The position of the two groups, which comprised Yoruba people from the 12 Yoruba speaking local government areas of Asa, Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Ilorin East, Ilorin West, Ilorin South, Offa, Oyun, Oke Ero, Moro and Isin in the state, formed part of the resolutions reached after a meeting in Ilorin at the weekend. A statement, signed by secretary of KSCF committee on National Conference, Mr. Lawrence Afolayan and state chairman of ARG, Chief Joe Olarogun, which was made available to journalists, said such boundary adjustment should be confirmed through referendum of the people of the area that wanted to be merged with their kit and kin. It also said that, “in so doing, the Yoruba of Kogi and Kwara in the South West region should have their own administrative units like Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti etc”. The statement, which said that Nigeria needed to operate a parliamentary system of government as against the current presidential system in order to survive and prosper, added that presidential system of government is “unnecessarily too expensive.”
