Confession: I think the NES library is largely unimpressive. Yeah, I know it was made while gaming was still in its infancy, but people revere that system as a veritable god. Ive made it clear that I dont like the Zelda series - I do, however, hold the first two in reasonably high regard. The Mario games are obviously great, and Mega Man is a respectable series. Of all the games, though, I think Kirbys Adventure is the best and one of the few NES-era games that still holds up. Most other games have horrible control schemes, questionable physics, or have too little substance. There are a lot, and I mean a lot of mediocre to average NES games (Milons Secret Castle, Iron Sword: Wizards and Warriros, Final Fantasy) and some of them people really like. However, I think the NES is built and stabilized predominantly on nostalgia, which isnt necessarily a bad thing - its hard to criticize something as old as the industry itself, and the fact that people can still enjoy it is fantastic. I just dont think its the godsend some claim it to be.
