Confusion with journals... First of all, words like - tourism, hospitality or management shows up in most of our journals. However, a trend exist where some new journals are copying nearly exactly the same wording or are mixing the wording slightly, such as The Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Management and The Journal of Tourism and Hospitality Management. Some journals added a word that clearly separate their journals from others...like adding the words international or contemporary. This clearly separate their journals from others. Secondly, I dont believe that a journal is trying to leverage their reputation from another journal but rather it was either an oversight or lack of knowledge about the names of the other journals in our field. My recommendation is for the older and more established journal to contact the new journal and ask them to distinguish themselves from their journal. This will eliminate confusion within the marketplace. Truthfully, this is the only ethical thing to do for both journals. I do not believe that a new journal wants to leverage their reputation from a more established journal that spent years creating their own brand reputation. I do believe that there is room in our field for more excellent journals so I do encourage new journals to enter the market place but they have to make sure that the consumer can identify their journal from others within the field.
