Congrats Sarah Eckhardt. Bill: Well, that was a long campaign. I am so very proud of the coalition of folks we put together, and I thank everyone who supported me and the need for a county ethics commission, a sobriety center, more senior tax relief, and more water conservation. I want to congratulate Sarah Eckhardt on her victory. We had a nice chat last night when I called to concede. She will be a great County Judge and I encourage everyone to support her. Andy and Marco Thanks. Most of all I want to thank my wife, Sara, for being awesome and supporting me through all of this. And my mom, Sharon, for her endless hours staffing the campaign headquarters. Special thanks to my staff and volunteers—we had an amazing team of phonebankers, blockwalkers, and other volunteers that reached out to all parts of Travis County. My absolutely amazing campaign manager Jim Wick, field director Marco Orrantia, volunteer coordinator Jordan Michalik, and field staff of Christian, Blake, Patrick, Beto, James, Sean, Matt & Alessandro, and interns Michelle, Stephanie, Erik, and Andrew, are the best around—all of y’all city council campaigns gearing up should jump to get any or all of them on your staff (I have their contact info if you need it). In particular I want to thank Laura Hernandez. Laura and I have worked together since 2008. I met her when she was President of the University Democrats. She was 50% of my blockwalking team when I ran for Democratic Party Chair (I was the other 50%). I hired her to be the Executive Director of the Party when I was Chair. Together we raised gobs of money for Democrats including President Obama to TCDP to Wendy Davis to almost $750,000 for my campaign for County Judge—I think we are close to having raised $3,000,000 together—most of it spent on voter contact in Travis County. I have never met a more dedicated employee on a campaign. She works incredibly long hours, keeps me on task, makes sure the job gets done, and stands up for what’s right. She will kill me for saying this, but she refused to take her salary for the last month of the campaign so we could spend more on voter contact. Without a doubt the best staff member I’ve ever worked with, and my friend. I also want to thank the many activists, elected officials, and just regular folks that supported me, especially Congressman Doggett, Senator Watson, Senator Zaffirini, Representative Dukes, Representative Rodriguez, Commissioner Gomez, Commissioner Todd, Mayor Leffingwell, Dr. Sarah Weddington, Commissioner Hightower, Mayor Garcia, Representative Delco, Judge Aleshire, and many more. Although I did not fare so well in the two largest newspapers here, I did hear that the Greensheet would have endorsed me but their editorial board had the flu that day. One last thing: campaign debt. We have a few expenses to cover to close out this campaign. Could you click here to donate one last time? Thanks, and I look forward to more work with you to make Travis County a better place. Sincerely, Andy Brown p.s. As far as I know, there is no official mourning period for keeping up your yard signs—so please feel free to take them to Ecology Action on 707 East 9th street, or you can recycle the wire portion of the sign in your single stream recycling.
