Congrats to Dillon on passing the National Registry Exam for Advanced EMT…now, a card carrying member of the EMS world. A unique and close knit profession that walks into peoples lives at their most devastating and vulnerable moments, intervenes with skills and training that, god willing, changes the outcomes of peoples lives forever. Next to surviving personal tragedy, EMS is probably the quickest route to understanding the vulnerability and fragility of life. Age 1: Sleeping in a “pack in play” in the ambulance dispatch center while I worked. Age 2: Traveling back and forth from Georgia to TN while we opened up a new ambulance division. Age 4: Moved to Athens, GA as we started up MMT. Rode to daycare everyday in a stretcher van, wheelchair van, or whatever was available! Age 15: Working at MMT cleaning trucks, dispatching, and helping on non emergency calls after school for spending money. Age 19: Enrolled in EMT school. Passed Basic EMT state boards, then Advanced EMT National Registry. He couldn’t escape it…it was in his blood!
