Congrats to Sam Briggs and her 195x2 bench. There are many negative comments on the original post that definitely let Sam know she has made something of herself. Haters will always let you know when you have accomplished something. Sam has been known for her incredible engine. Sam is showing the world she has worked on her weaknesses and is now strong as well. It is always nice to see an elite athlete work on there weaknesses and make them a strength. A quality we should all have. We are proud to be freinds and work with such an amazing person and athlete. I want to congratulate Sam and the rest of her team for an amazing performance as always. As far as many of the comments on her technique. Realize that she has won the CrossFit games and has totaled elite in a sanctioned power lifting meet. What I am getting at is who is the student to question the master? My wife and I work with Sam in her bench press technique. I have produced multiple world record holders in the bench and my wife has pound for pound the best bench in history and the biggest bench in a full meet by a woman. We represent West Side Barbell and everyone knows of the success West Side had had. We have both been judges for multiple federations. One person said he is a judge and that was not a good lift. He judges for the only federation that does not allow your heals off the ground. That is not a rule in all power lifting meets and this was not a power lifting meet. As far as the arch in the back. This is actually a safer better way to bench. Does an arched bridge or flat bridge handle more weight? The arched bridge does, it displaces stress over a greater area. With this arch it puts her shoulders in a safer position. It also keeps her back tight and safe. Pushing her back to the bench would increase injury rate and lower performance. It is nice to see CrossFit include power lifting in its workouts. Just brings more awareness to both sports and shows how well rounded these amazing athletes really are.
