Congratulation ABATE of Illinois!! The Governor signed in to law our bills on Fri. Aug. 16th. SB1356 Senate Amendment 002 - VEH CD-SPEED LIMITS-70MPH The link below will give you P.A. # and language ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/fulltext.asp?name=098-0511&GA=98&SessionId=85&DocTypeId=SB&DocNum=2356&GAID=12&Session= The US Congress is out of session till September 9th and this would be a great time to make an appointment to see them in their district offices and talk to them about our issues and concerns. Even if your buddy’s went that is no reason for you not to go and express your views, the more the better. If your congressman is listed below Thank Them for their support. Only Congressmen Randy Hultgren (14), Adam Kinzinger (16), Rodney Davis (13) and Aaron Schock (18) have signed on H.R.1861 by Congressman J. Sensenbrenner: Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act. This is what we did here back in 2012 but we need to help those in other states by getting a federal passed and would be extra protection for us. Other issues of great concern that we need to talk hard about are: H.R. 875, Wisconsin Congressman James Sensenbrenner: To provide for a comprehensive assessment of the scientific and technical research on the implications of the use of mid-level ethanol blends, and for other purposes Let’s get this stuff fully tested, not just on emission controls and catalytic convertors but on the motors. Let us have a proper test where the valves, bearings, pistons and all internal combustion motor parts are tested on ALL types of motors, on-road, off-road, cars and trucks. Those tests were never performed on the test vehicles. There are NO Illinois Congressmen signed on to this bill. Let us change that. Another bill we need to support is H.R. 2414 by Mass. Congressman Michael Capuano: The bill will protect motorcyclists’ rights by requiring manufacturers to prominently disclose to consumers if an event data recorder (commonly known as a black box) is installed on their motorcycle, the data collection capabilities of such a device, and how such data may be used. Congressman Rodney Davis (13) is the lone Illinois Co-Sponsor We oppose: H.R.1214 by Illinois Congressman John Shimkus. His bill: To provide liability protection for claims based on the design, manufacture, sale, offer for sale, introduction into commerce, or use of certain fuels and fuel additives, and for other purposes. (Congressman J. Shimkus has been and still is a friend to ABATE) ( we just need to show him of his error on this bill) Why would you have to exempt anyone from liability if this stuff is such a great product? That is us holding the bag to pay for clean-ups from leakage and paying to have our engines rebuilt from having to use this stuff (E-15). We oppose H.R. 2267, Texas Congressman Gene Green: American Fuel Protection Act of 2013 To make the United States exclusively liable for certain claims of liability to the extent such liability is a claim for damages resulting from, or aggravated by, the inclusion of ethanol in transportation fuel. &nbs p; ; Why would you want the federal government taking on all liability for damage done by anything? That’s our tax dollars being spent on cleaning up and the damage caused by ethanol to our engines. We need more participation from the membership in regards’ to both our PACs. We need to be more active in attending fund raisers for the legislators and we need more of our members on the PACs, especially in the Chicago/Cook County area. Cook County has way over 50% of ALL our legislators, both state and federal, and there are only 3 STATEPAC trustees and 1 FEDPAC trustee for all of those legislators. They cannot cover that many events/legislators.STEP UP and Help Us To Help You!!! "The Rights You Save May Be Your Own" Raising money for our PACs should be our first priority in our chapter activity events after stabilizing the chapter checkbook! PAC money is how we get extra face time with our legislators and when you attend their events they see you are reaching out to them. For us to win on issues like ethanol the Chicago/Cook County legislators are the ones we need to convince there are concerns/issues with the caustic effects of E-15. This area also has “No Corn Fields” so it is harder for the “corn growers and ethanol industry” to lobby them whereas there are plenty of us bikers. Legislative Officers and members please get active, look in the newsletter and contact your trustees/chairman. We have to get more pro-active if we are to survive. We have become too complacent with our past successes. Any questions or comments, just give me a call. Bob Myers (618) 917-4919 State Legislative Coordinator ABATE of Illinois, Inc.
